Almost overnight the Autumn has arrived on the island. Heady, warm, and sometimes midge-infested summer days have suddenly been replaced by breezes, scattered showers and a distinctive chill in the air.
But what a summer it has been! Truly, I would say it has been the most work but the most fun ever to have kept the little shop at Gearrannan stocked up with my designs and to see my knits fly away to new loving homes right across the globe. How I hope that each jumper will be treasured by its new owner and will forever remain a joyful reminder of a happy holiday in the Hebrides.
Of course, it’s not only the shop orders that have been keeping me busy for the past few months. I am so blessed to have had a steady stream of private commissions also, from many dear & cherished customers. I have had the best time ever with these, as there is nothing more rewarding than working together with a client to design and make a one of a kind jumper to their exact specifications. As a knitter there is a huge joy in knowing that the finished jumper will be loved all the more because its wearer were themselves an integral part of its creation.
Summer may be over, but I am not sad because of course I love the winter, for winter is the zenith of the knitter’s year! Projects for the months ahead include a delightful mix of private commissions, pattern writing and new designs for the collections. Time allowing, I will also be getting my stockpile together for next spring and the 2026 summer season at Gearrannan.
As the nights draw in, an exciting dark season lies ahead…
